Not less than 100 survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and other forms of violence in Sokoto State have taken significant steps toward economic independence and healing. This new initiative, under the Neem Foundation Vocational and Entrepreneurship Project, is carried out in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria. Speaking in his remarks on Wednesday, Malam Kabiru Mahe, the foundation Program Coordinator in Sokoto State, stated that the initiative aims to equip beneficiaries with practical livelihood skills and provide vital mental health support. “This program is designed to give survivors a renewed sense of purpose and stability.” “Since its inception, over 300 women have been trained in skills such as soap making, baking, and digital technology,” he said. He highlighted the foundation’s holistic approach, which addresses both the economic and emotional needs of the survivors. “We’ve witnessed remarkable transformation. Beyond the vocational training, mental health and psychosocial support have been integral to the project’s success. “Moreover, these women are not just learning skills—they’re reclaiming their lives,” he emphasised. Malam Buhari Suleiman, Director of Administration at the Sokoto Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SOSMEDA), lauded the impact of the project on the community. “This initiative has made a tangible difference in the lives of women across the state. It is empowering individuals and strengthening communities,” he said. Sulaiman assured that the government would ensure the project’s sustainability while exploring additional avenues of support for the beneficiaries. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malama Nafisa Abdullah, described the intervention as life-changing. “Before this, meeting my basic needs was a constant struggle. Now, I can earn a living, and the mental health support has helped me let go of past pain. My family and I are finally moving forward,” she said. Daily Post Nigeria Infinix 2024: A year of power moves, big wins and bold innovation Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport Sponsored Infinix 2024: A year of power moves, big wins and bold innovation Published on December 17, 2024 By Daily Post Staff In 2024, Infinix solidified its place as a driving force in the global technology landscape. With a series of bold product launches, impactful partnerships, and initiatives that empowered youth, women, educators, students and communities, Infinix’s influence extended beyond mobile devices. This was a year of dominance, growth, and evolution. A notable shift in 2024 was Infinix’s transformation of its brand ethos from “The Future is Now” to “Get In Now”. IMPACTFUL PARTNERSHIPS THAT SHAPED THE YEAR Beyond devices, Infinix believes that progress is best achieved together. This year, the brand struck strategic partnerships that uplifted communities, empowered youth, and captured the attention of millions. Another standout partnership was with UNESCO, where Infinix took a bold step to advance STEM education. Through a two-day AI and robotics training workshop in Abuja and at the University of Ibadan, Nigerian educators and students were equipped with hands-on skills in coding, machine learning, AI, and robotics, thereby shaping the future of education and tech innovation in Nigeria. Lucky winners from different regions of Nigeria were flown to Ivory Coast to watch an AFCON match live, explore the country’s vibrant culture and hangout with Alex Iwobi, the then Infinix HOT 40 ambassador. Another impactful project was the renovation of the ICT Student Resource Centre at the University of Ibadan. The facility now provides students with access to the latest tech tools and skills training. Infinix even went a step further to offer job placements to graduates of the university at Transsion’s subsidiaries. Infinix also committed to gender equity by sponsoring 20 women for the WIMBIZ Mentorship Program, giving them access to knowledge, leadership, and networking opportunities. This year also saw the Sallah Promo, a campaign that brought joy to communities across Nigeria. Winners were rewarded with ₦400,000 in cash and household appliances like swallow makers, microwaves, and other kitchen essentials. This initiative brought smiles to families across regions like Abuja, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Lagos, and Enugu, filling homes with joy and festive spirit. The Brand Month Anniversary was another celebration of loyalty and community. Two teams headed in opposite directions square off Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City when the Utah Jazz host the New York Knicks. The Jazz come in on a four-game losing streak, having most recently blown a huge lead at San Antonio on Thursday. They entered the weekend last in the Western Conference with just three wins on the season. Conversely, the Knicks bring a four-game winning streak to Utah after kicking off a five-game road trip Wednesday night with a victory at Phoenix. Coach Tom Thibodeau was pleased with how well the Knicks performed together in their 138-122 win over the short-handed Suns, who were missing injured stars Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. "The guys are starting to get used to playing off of each other," Thibodeau said. "Each game you can see they're seeing things. They're reading the game extremely well. I think they're creating good spacing. They're cutting extremely well and what that's doing is it's opening up the floor and we're playing into space. And everyone's unselfish. We had 30 assists. I think that's huge." In the win at Phoenix, Jalen Brunson scored 23 points in the first half and Karl-Anthony Towns poured in 23 in the second half. Brunson finished with 36 points and 10 assists. He hit 12 of 21 field goals overall and drained 7 of 11 3-point attempts. Towns totaled 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor, adding 10 rebounds to help the Knicks continue their winning ways after two victories over Brooklyn and one against Washington. The Jazz came unraveled Thursday night after taking a 20-point first-half lead at San Antonio. Lauri Markkanen scored 27 and Keyonte George chipped in with 19 against the Spurs, who were playing without injured star center Victor Wembanyama. "I thought the first half, the energy, the tempo, the ball movement, the competitive spirit of the team was as good as we've seen in a while," Jazz coach Will Hardy said. That wasn't the case in the second half, however, as Utah gave up 75 points and was outscored by 12 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Reserve Brice Sensabaugh, who's seen inconsistent playing time, was a highlight for Utah in the first half, when he totaled 13 of his 18 points. "He has not complained. He's not had, like, a ‘woe-is-me' mentality. He's just come to work every day and he's taken some hard coaching," Hardy said. "He understands what's expected of him, but to his credit, he was ready, and he deserves all of the credit for that." Off to a tough start, the Jazz are hoping to find more consistency. The uneven play was evident against the Spurs, and it's been an issue at home, too. Utah returns to the Delta Center, usually a difficult venue for opponents, with just a 1-5 home record. "At the end of the day, you've got to play two halves," Collin Sexton said after scoring 18 for Utah. "We've got to play 48 minutes. You can't allow the first half to get you too high or get you too low, you've got to always stay consistent and just continue to build off of that." This article first appeared on Field Level Media and was syndicated with permission.Joe Burrow got a little off-the-field protection from a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model. According to multiple reports on Tuesday, Olivia Ponton is the person who called 911 when Burrow’s Ohio home was being broken into Monday — when the Bengals QB was busy beating the Cowboys on “Monday Night Football” in Dallas. Ponton, 22, called in the burglary at 8:14 p.m. after she pulled up to Burrow’s $7.5 million Cincinnati home and saw a “shattered bedroom window and the room ransacked.” “Someone broke into my house,” The model, who has 8 million TikTok followers, told authorities over the phone. “It’s like completely messed up. ... Can we please send more people?” An investigation into the incident remains ongoing, though it marks at least the third star NFLer to have their house broken into during a game. It comes on the heels of break-ins at Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ homes that led the NFL to send a memo to players and teams that they may be targets . A South American crime ring is reportedly believed to be at the center of the Chiefs stars’ incidents . Ponton called her mother, Diane, who called 911, as well. “My daughter is there, this is Joe Burrow’s house. She is staying there, he’s at the football game. She’s wondering what she should do, if she should be hiding or if she should be going outside,” she said. It is unknown if anything was taken from Burrow’s house. The relationship between Ponton and Burrow, 28, is not known, though Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office documents state the influencer is “employed” by the QB. Neither has commented publicly, though it would be an awkward way to announce a romantic entanglement. Burrow was believed to be engaged to longtime girlfriend Olivia Holzmacher, though the college sweethearts never confirmed the news and have not been featured on one another social media since a Jan. 31 Instagram post by Holzmacher.
